What's going on ?

8 March 2001: Finally got a replacement monitor. It's not as good as I had expected but the picture quality is nice. I bought a new graphics card at the same time: a Matrox G450.

24 February 2001: Got myself a brand new Iiyama 19" monitor. Unfortunately it turned out that my good G200 graphics card was a casualty of the rather explosive death of the old screen. I'm not buying a new card now! I took the ATI card out of my second box (I never got the TV out to work anyway) and put it in my main machine. I was ready to enjoy a nice 19" display. Not so! The picture quality is horrendous. There is a terrible moiré effect all over the screen. The manual doesn't mention it but there is an option in the settings to adjust it. It improved the picture quality significantly in the center of the screen but not on all the surface. This is useless. I'm going to exchange it but I can't decide between a 17" or the highest quality in 19".

23 February 2001: My monitor died with a horrible loud "bang" today. I can't say I will miss this low-quality monitor too much but still I hadn't planned to replace it anytime soon. I'll have to find a replacement tomorrow.

Eh ?

OK, I have no intention of starting a real weblog. I'm not going to make a detailled report of everything I do on this page.
I will only update it when I feel like it.
